Dear Void...

Day - who knows what - in the endless lockdown we are experiencing in the UK currently.

It's the ultimate Groundhog day. Only less fun and you can actually die... So high jinks all 'round really.

⬅(side note - Lots of Schitts Creek love in this house)

So in the midst of lockdown and schooling and working and everything else, I have also been editing my debut novel. I think it's coming along quite well and I am proud of what I have achieved so far.

It was also my birthday recently. (yes, January birthdays sucks balls!) My husband - Mr GH.B, as we shall call him - gifted me a picture drawn by an artist called Kaz - www.kazland.co.uk - interpreted by my name. I love it, it's so cool! (picture below)

Also in the picture is the barometer from my Grandma's house which I inherited when she died a few years ago. It made me think about how awesome my Grandma was, and how she inspired me throughout my childhood and into my adulthood.

She was a fierce feminist who would never sit quietly and accept she was less than a man. She would never allow any macho bullshit and always spoke her mind (even if no-one wanted to hear it!).

One of my favourite stories of her, was when I was about 13years old, she quit the women's only bowls team she had been a part for years, because the other members voted to merge with the men's team and she, and I am quoting directly, "Wouldn't have a man tell her what to do." I still vividly remember when she indignantly told me. My dad rolled his eyes and nodded along, being well used to her views.

To me though, her reaction, was a defining moment of my youth. To see and hear her actions, showing that woman can be fierce and outspoken and despite what society generally likes to peddle about meek and mild females, you really don't have to subscribe to that ideal if you don't want to.

She has inspired me all of my life and needless to say that now, in my adulthood I like to think I emulate her ideals too and am passing that same view onto both my daughter and my son.

The books I enjoy reading myself always feature a strong independent female main character. Now I am writing my own stories, I like to think each of my female characters hold a little bit of my Grandma's strength and sass in them too.

I miss her every day.

That's it from me dear Void.

Let's speak soon...yeah?
